Antioxidants are special compounds that bind to free radicals, preventing them from damaging healthy cells. Although the body forms antioxidants, such as glutathione, lipoic acid and coQ10, to neutralize free radicals, the production of antioxidants declines with age. And some, like Vitamin C and vitamin E must be obtained from the diet. Additional antioxidants include vitamin A, selenium, lutein, lycopene, and other polyphenols and flavonoids found in fruits, vegetables and herbal supplements.
